A school bus burst into flames in Roeland, Kansas Wednesday morning, just minutes after the children got off.
The bus driver, Fred Flemming, said he started smelling smoke as he dropped the children off at school.
Once the kids were inside, Flemming went to the back of the bus, lifted up a seat near the heater and found the fire. He said the kids had only been off the bus three to four minutes.
"I saw the little flames, so I went back to get a fire extinguisher," Flemming said. "By the time I got it loose and called the dispatch, the smoke was pretty intense, so I looked to go back, but it was too heavy."
Flemming alerted employees at a nearby community center who called the fire department. Within minutes they were able to get it under control.
No one was injured.
