Crystal Kaylor is graduating from the Home of Grace for Women in Eight Mile. She says she started drinking when she was only 12 years old. Crystal says this holiday season is going to be different.

“I'll remember this one,” says Kaylor. “I haven't remembered a Christmas or New Year’s since I was about 12.” At 24, Kaylor’s part of a growing trend. When the Home of Grace for Women opened in 1973, the average age of patients was 50. Today it’s 26.

“I drank a lot because I was missing family members in the house,” says Kaylor. “I moved from New Jersey to Alabama and that was a big change for me.” The holidays mark a change for Kaylor and the other women here. Instead of going out with old friends and partying the night away, she’ll be doing the opposite.

“I will be staying home, I will not be going anywhere because,” says Kaylor. “It's out there, you really have to stay away from it it's not going to stay away from you.”
