Are You Distracted By The New Electronic Billboards?

Some Mobile City Council members have concerns

Some Mobile City Council members are raising concerns about those new electronic billboards you see around town.
The big question: Are they too distracting?
Council Member Connie Hudson says, "We just need to look at where they're situated, how close in proximity they are, and where we go from here. We don't want to end up with a landscape that's flashing at people on the left and right, everywhere they look."
Council President Reggie Copeland says, "Personally, I think they (the electronic billboards) look good, but a proliferation of them on Airport Boulevard from, say, McGregor Avenue to the interstate could cause a serious problem. Somebody could be on the cell phone and they see a moving billboard and, the next thing you know, you've got a wreck."
Lawyers for the city are looking at what current ordinances say about the electronic billboards and whether changes should be made.
We also asked people driving through the area of Airport Boulevard and Azalea Road what they think of the electronic billboards.
Deanna Boyington of Mobile said, "I don't really think too much of them myself. I don't really pay attention."
Sherian Williams of Mobile said, "I think they're informative and I don't have any problem with them. I don't think they're distracting."
Mary Jane Watson of Fairhope said, "I guess I kind of feel like its more light pollution."
Before any action is taken on the billboards, the city council will hear what its lawyers have to say and also talk to people from billboard companies.
