OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Police in Omaha, Nebraska, say nine people
are dead after a shooting at a shopping mall, including the man who
opened fire and then apparently took his own life.
Five others were hurt, including two with critical injuries.
Police say the gunman was found dead on the third floor of the
Von Maur department store.
As shots rang out, shoppers and employees ran screaming through
the mall, barricading themselves in dressing rooms, storage rooms
and offices. Some say they hid for at least a half-hour while
hearing dozens of shots.
Police say they received a call about a shooter at about 1:45
p.m., Central time, and arrived six minutes later.
A police spokeswoman says the shooter is believed to have used a
rifle. They don't think he had any accomplices.
Most of the victims were inside the Von Maur store.
