Circus of the Kids is a traveling group that goes from city to city training eager young middle school kids to be real circus performers. Organizers say it’s a show designed to impress all ages.
“We've got a trick bicycle, trick roller skates, we've got mini tramp that you see here they're up on the trapeze,” says Director Bruce Pfeffer. “It's just all kinds of circus acrobatics.” The circus training starts with an audition. The trainers determine what the children’s strengths are and what they should be a part of. 6th Grader Cate Ankersen wanted to be a part of the circus because her sister did it two years ago.
“You get to hang out with your friends,” says Ankersen. “You get to meet new people and sometimes people you've not even seen before, you get to talk to them and hang out.” Ankersen is part of the mini-tramp. One of her teammates is 8th grader Tyler Massengale.
“You have to discipline yourself to be able to cooperate with everybody,” says Massengale. “Be able to understand each other.” This is the 6th year in a row for Circus of the Kids at St. Dominic School. Performances are this Friday and Saturday evening at 7pm. There are two matinee shows, Saturday and Sunday at 2PM.
