Actor Dennis Quaid and his wife are suing the
makers of Heparin.
Their twin newborns were inadvertently given massive doses of
the blood thinner recently at a Los Angeles hospital. The vials
were 1,000 times stronger than what was prescribed.
The product liability lawsuit charges that Baxter Healthcare
Corporation of Illinois was negligent in packaging different doses
of the product in similar vials.
Three Indianapolis infants died from overdoses last year.
The attorney who filed the lawsuit says the twins, named Thomas
and Zoe, are now home and "appear to be doing well."
She says the lawsuit is aimed at preventing the same mistake
from being made with other children.
The suit, filed in Chicago, seeks at least $50,000 in damages.
