There appears to be a settlement in a
massive class-action lawsuit over Ford Explorers.
About a million people in four states joined in the lawsuit
against the automaker claiming Explorers from 1991 through 2001
were prone to rollovers.
An attorney for the SUV owners says the settlement allows
plaintiffs in California, Connecticut, Illinois and Texas to apply
for $500 vouchers to buy new Explorers or $300 vouchers to buy
other Ford or Lincoln Mercury products.
If a California judge gives preliminary approval, consumers can
apply for the vouchers through a Web site starting Monday.
The attorney for the drivers says final approval could come in
April, after those covered by the settlement have had time to apply
for the vouchers.
