The Mount Vernon Volunteer Fire Department was called to house fire early this morning. The call came out just before 4am on Saint Stephens Street in Mount Vernon. Fire fighters were able to get the blaze under control but not before the house was destroyed by the fire. It's unknown if anyone was home at the residence at the time of the fire. The cause is still under investigation. Calcedeaver, Citronelle and Turnerville Volunteer Fire Departments assisted.
