Company lets select group of testers check out new version of Microsoft Office before big release.

SEATTLE (AP) - Microsoft is unveiling its new Office suite - sort of. The company has begun letting a select group of testers check out its new version of the productivity software that is a big part of its profit picture.

The "technical preview" of the software is an indication that the product is still on track to be released early next year. But Microsoft is holding back - for now,
anyway - a key part of the suite: the free, Web-based version of its programs. Office remains the most popular software packages for business-related activity. But the company is also trying to keep up with the trend of software moving from the desktop to the Web.

With Office 2010, Microsoft must decide how much software it can give away online without undercutting its own software business.
