RENO, Nev. (AP) - Remember those old Maytag commercials with the repairman who had nothing to do? Well, a real Maytag repairman is
in hot water for doing nothing, but charging for it.
A jury in Lake Tahoe, Nev., has convicted Darin Jerome French on 36 counts of federal wire fraud for submitting phony repair claims. Prosecutors
say French's fake warranty repairs totaled more than $150,000.
Those old commercials called the Maytag repairman "the loneliest guy in town." Well, French could end up with plenty of company. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count.
