Hearts and flowers, it's what Valentines Day is all about. With less than 24 hours before the big day, floral designers at Celebrations in Pensacola are breathing a sigh of relief. "We were planning on business being down so when I purchased flowers for the week I planned on a certain percentage of it being down but we've met that percentage and had to buy additional flowers to get through the period and have enough for tomorrow," says head floral designer Ted Simmons.
Valentines day is turning out to be a lot like Christmas. While the economy has everybody cutting back they are still spending.
"It has an effect on everybody," says Greg Smith who picked up his Valentines arrangement earlier in the day. He says a slumping economy is making a difference. "People really try to stay within their means rather than getting overly elaborate."
But that's not the case for everybody according to designer Susan Diamond.
"You have those that say by God I'm going to get my wife a 200 dollar arrangement or 150 dollar arrangement. They want a great arrangement and they'll spend 75 to 150 dollars and their going to get something worth their money."
The arrangements might not be as big or have as many roses but at least most florist are feeling the love this Valentine's.
