ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - U.S. Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer has a simple explanation for why the country is so reliant on foreign oil: Congress is nuts.
That's the assessment Schafer gave at the "Farm to Fuel
Summit" hosted by Florida's Department of Agriculture and Consumer
Services.
He said Congress has ignored the need to become energy
independence because lawmakers are too busy bickering and too
worried about their own re-elections.
While the main theme for the two-day summit is researching,
producing and using renewable fuels, Schafer and Gov. Charlie Crist
also strongly criticized Congress for not pushing for more domestic
drilling as a way to reduce oil imports.
