NEW YORK (AP) - More sales numbers are coming in from the first
big shopping weekend of the holiday season and they show modest
gains over last year.
Retailers are hoping for a boost from "Cyber Monday" online
sales.
ShopperTrak says sales rose 3 percent to $10.6 billion on Friday
from the Black Friday a year ago, but slipped 0.8 percent to $6
billion on Saturday.
Total retail sales for Friday and Saturday combined rose 1.9
percent from a year ago. ShopperTrak co-founder Bill Martin expects
sales pulled back again on Sunday, for an estimated 1 percent rise
over the three-day weekend.
There are no overall Cyber Monday results yet, but Target.com
says it was doing a little better than last year by midday.
